Quality Improvement and Mentorship
STRIPE HIV's (Strengthening InterProfessional Education for HIV) Quality Improvement & Mentorship (QI/M) program strengthens the capacity of health care teams to identify gaps in HIV services and implement practical, data-informed improvements within routine clinical practice.
- Led by the Education for Interprofessional HIV Service Delivery in Uganda (EIPHIV-U) team based at Makerere University.
- Pairs structured continuous quality improvement (CQI) methods in day-to-day service delivery with ongoing, facility-level mentorship provided by trained mentors.
- Improved patient outcomes at the facility level while building local capacity and earning strong support from district health management teams.
Since its pilot in 2024, the program has expanded across multiple countries and academic partners in Africa, with continued growth in 2026.
An introduction to Quality Improvement in Healthcare module is available in our HIV Training Modules.

Participant and Mentor Perspectives
We have always participated in CQI activities at this facility, but the approach introduced by the EIPHIV-U team has been quite unique. They engage everyone at the facility, right from clinical staff to volunteers, ensuring that even lay workers actively contribute to CQI processes.

When this mentorship started, I realized it brought together all cadres to identify the existing gaps and work together to solve the problem. I can confidently say that my staff now work together as a team and have developed a culture of solving challenges as a team.
