James Hakim Leadership Development Program for Nursing Leadership

Launched in 2024, the James Hakim Leadership Development Program for Nursing Leadership (JHLDP/NL) strengthens leadership knowledge and skills among nurses and midwives working in Africa’s health care systems, including those in remote and hard-to-reach settings. Developed in partnership with the African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth) and 15 nursing experts from across Africa, who also served as course faculty. 

  • Training topics include clinical and professional, leadership, and management skills.
  • Delivered through online cohorts in English, French, and Portuguese.
  • 51 nurses and midwives from 12 countries completed the training in 2024.
  • 115 nurses and midwives from 27 countries completed the training in 2025.
